These acrylic and graphite canvases (2005) reflect my continued interest and exploration with abstraction,
mark making, and composition. I wanted both to pair down my pieces to what I felt to be only essential elements
(i.e., I eliminated color) and also to link past work on paper to a more “painterly” tradition.
Although the transition from paper to canvas was relatively straight forward, I did find I needed to support
the canvas with panel. This enabled me to vary the pressure of my marks without stretching or tearing the surface.
